Proposal: Launching the .wct Name Service in Collaboration with ENS

Overview

I propose the development and launch of a custom .wct name service for the WalletConnect ecosystem, in strategic collaboration with the Ethereum Name Service (ENS). Leveraging ENS’s proven technology stack and integration across major DApps, this initiative will enhance user identity, usability, and ecosystem branding.

Partnership with ENS

ENS has successfully supported leading Web3 projects such as Coinbase ( .cb.id | base.eth ), Uniswap (.uni.eth), and Polygon (.polygon.id) in launching their own decentralized naming systems. By collaborating with ENS, WalletConnect can tap into:

  • A battle-tested toolkit for domain registration and resolution,
  • Seamless integration with popular wallets, browsers, and DApps,
  • Full Ethereum Layer 1 and Layer 2 compatibility.

Why .wct?

.wct domains will serve as human-readable identifiers across the WalletConnect ecosystem. Instead of using complex wallet addresses like 0x1234...abcd, users will be able to send and receive crypto using addresses such as:

  • Create a unified digital identity that works across all WalletConnect-enabled apps.

  • Use .WCT names to send/receive tokens across chains, thanks to WalletConnect’s cross-chain messaging framework.

  • Associate on-chain credentials, NFT avatars, and verifiable credentials with a single .wct name.

  • Use .wct names as Sign-in with Ethereum handles.
  1. DApp Discovery and Personal Landing Pages
  • Each name can optionally be linked to a custom profile DApp, e.g., founder.wct.me, which acts as a Web3-native “Linktree”.
  • This profile can showcase:
    • Social links (X, Farcaster, Lens…)
    • NFT collections
    • POAPs and badges
    • Recent on-chain activity
  1. DAO, Team, and Project Organization
  • Assign readable names to wallets belonging to contributors, smart contracts, or multisigs, e.g., treasury.wct, gov.wct, team.wct.

Token Integration

Domain registrations and renewals will be paid using the $WCT token, reinforcing its utility and creating a sustainable economic loop within the ecosystem.

The .wct name service will elevate WalletConnect from a technical connector to a user-centric identity layer for the entire multi-chain Web3 space.
