I’m a Web3 user and researcher from Indonesia (IG: @otg__02). I’d like to share a community idea to add real utility to the WCT token.
The core idea is: developers who use WalletConnect to verify user wallet data (e.g. for airdrop eligibility) would need to pay using WCT — while users remain free to connect.
This could:
Create real organic demand for WCT
Provide a sustainable revenue model
Help prevent scam projects by requiring developer stake
Keep access free for users
Real-world example: imagine restaurants, cafes, or garages offering QR-based Web3 access — all powered by WalletConnect, with WCT as the “Wi-Fi center” that connects them all.

making devs pay wct might push big platforms to switch to another service and could slow down smaller legit projects; maybe just make risky, new or flagged projects stake wct?
Hi@otgboys ,
Thanks a lot for taking the time to share your thoughts and for supporting WalletConnect — we really appreciate community-driven ideas like this.
Your proposal around using WCT as the medium for developers to pay when accessing wallet verification services is interesting. A few things stand out in your suggestion:
Aligns with demand creation: Having developers stake or pay in WCT for airdrop checks or verification could indeed generate organic utility for the token.
User-first approach: Keeping wallet connection free for end-users while developers carry the cost matches WalletConnect’s mission of accessibility.
Trust and safety angle: Requiring developer stake is an intriguing way to reduce spammy or scam projects — something we care about a lot in this space.
Right now, WCT’s role is still evolving and our team is actively exploring sustainable ways to integrate it deeper into the ecosystem. While we can’t commit to specific models just yet, ideas like yours help guide the conversation and show what the community values most.
I’ll make sure to pass this feedback along to the team internally so it’s part of the ongoing discussion. Please also feel free to share this in our community channels (Discord/Forum/Twitter), where it can spark more dialogue with developers and other users.
Thanks again for being part of the WalletConnect community and for bringing such thoughtful suggestions forward!
