Enhancing WCT Utility: Developer-Paid Integration

Hi WalletConnect Team,

I’m a Web3 user and researcher from Indonesia (IG: @otg__02). I’d like to share a community idea to add real utility to the WCT token.

The core idea is: developers who use WalletConnect to verify user wallet data (e.g. for airdrop eligibility) would need to pay using WCT — while users remain free to connect.

This could:

  • Create real organic demand for WCT
  • Provide a sustainable revenue model
  • Help prevent scam projects by requiring developer stake
  • Keep access free for users

Real-world example: imagine restaurants, cafes, or garages offering QR-based Web3 access — all powered by WalletConnect, with WCT as the “Wi-Fi center” that connects them all.

Thanks a lot for the support! Let’s hope the team considers it :raising_hands:

making devs pay wct might push big platforms to switch to another service and could slow down smaller legit projects; maybe just make risky, new or flagged projects stake wct?

That’s a very good point, and I appreciate the thoughtful feedback :raising_hands:

What if we introduced a tiered model instead?

  • Trusted or verified projects can still access basic WalletConnect services for free
  • New, unverified, or high-risk projects would need to stake/pay WCT
  • Premium dev tools or extra data validation could be behind a WCT-paywall

This way we encourage responsible usage, without discouraging innovation from smaller projects. The goal is to make WCT useful, not burdensome.

Thanks again for helping refine the idea!
