WalletConnect Network Governance Proposal is Live

1/ The first-ever WalletConnect Network governance proposal is live, and it’s all about shaping the UX Council—a key step toward decentralizing decision-making.

Here’s what it means, why it matters, and how you can vote

2/ What is the UX Council?

The UX Council is a new governance body designed to improve user experience and ecosystem growth within WalletConnect.

Instead of separate Technical and Partnerships Councils, the UX Council combines both perspectives into one core working group.

3/ Why is the UX Council important?

Decentralization isn’t just about technology—it’s about giving builders and users a voice in how networks evolve.

The UX Council ensures that WalletConnect remains community-driven, focusing on usability, integrations, and developer experience.

4/ What will the UX Council do?

:white_check_mark: Guide technical improvements for WalletConnect

:white_check_mark: Shape the user experience across apps and wallets

:white_check_mark: Drive ecosystem partnerships and adoption

:white_check_mark: Align governance with the community’s needs

5/ Who can vote?

If you have staked WCT tokens (stWCT), you can vote on this proposal.

Voting power is based on how many WCT tokens you have staked + how long they are locked for.

8/ Have a say in the future of WalletConnect.

Your vote decides how governance evolves and how WalletConnect prioritizes UX, integrations, and foster ecosystem growth.

Hello it was a nice thread ! lets discuss about several things that could be improve the wallet connect from the cast vote mechanism

About the Risks and Potential Challenges

Domination of Stakeholders

Could the UX Council be dominated by a small group of stakeholders, leading to centralized decision-making despite the goal of decentralization?

The primary goal of the UX Council is to decentralize decision-making within WalletConnect. However, there is a risk that a small group of large token holders (whales) or influential individuals could dominate decisions, effectively recreating a centralized power structure within a supposedly decentralized system.

Clash Decisions

What happens if the UX Council makes decisions that clash with WalletConnect’s core development team? Who has the final say?

The UX Council is expected to propose UX improvements, but their decisions might conflict with the priorities, technical limitations, or vision of the core development team at WalletConnect.

Legal or Regulatory

Are there any legal or regulatory concerns that need to be addressed regarding the governance structure?

The UX Council governance system relies on token-based voting and decentralized decision-making, which could raise legal and regulatory challenges depending on jurisdiction.
Potential legal issues include:

  • Could the governance tokens be classified as securities (security tokens), triggering financial regulations?
  • How does the UX Council comply with corporate governance laws and digital governance frameworks?
  • Could UX Council members face legal liabilities if their decisions harm WalletConnect users?

Lets discuss this more out !
